Table 10: My Self-Advocacy Map

Session Repeats

Developing self advocacy skills in students is important work. Join two Mother & Daughter teams to discuss tools and resources to nurture and develop skills to become a successful self-advocate from an early age.

Kennedy Coyle, college student and Decoding Dyslexia Student Advocate, with her mom, Kenya Coyle, a Speech & Language Pathologist, Certified Academic Language Therapist, and DD-OK State Leader, will join Janae Harris, Miss Nebraska’s Teen , and her mom, Amanda Hall. Together, the teams will share their successes in building their student advocate voice and the tools they find to be helpful.

DDOK All About ME?

Kennedy Coyle has participated in many Decoding Dyslexia Oklahoma awareness campaigns and advocacy events. One of her favorite memories was the Beautiful Minds exhibit where she got to share her story about her struggle in school as a student with learning disabilities. Kennedy is proud that she belongs to a community with other dyslexic students across the state who have shared their experiences to help other students who are newly diagnosed find their voice and self-advocate for what they need to be successful in school.

Janae Harris

My service initiative, Made for More, was born out of a deep desire to help individuals realize that their dreams are not limited by their circumstances. My mission is to inspire everyone – regardless of age, socioeconomic background, or learning needs — to embrace their potential and understand that they are truly made for more. Having personally overcome the challenges of dyslexia, I understand the importance of access to supportive tools. That’s why I’ve partnered with Dyslexico, a Nebraska-based start-up, to promote and test their cutting-edge Al technology designed to assist individuals with dyslexia. This collaboration gave me the honor of testifying in favor of Nebraska Legislative Bill 1253, advocating for a $1 million investment in Al-driven writing assistance for dyslexic individuals. In addition to my work with Dyslexico, I’m proud to collaborate with organizations such as Teammates, the Black Literacy Center, and the Voice Advocacy Center. These partnerships have provided platforms for me to speak at conferences and engage in roundtable discussions, sharing insights and driving change. Through my podcast, Made for More with Jande Harris, I continue to amplify the voices of inspiring TV personalities, mentors, and dyslexia advocates from across the nation. Their stories serve as reminders that, no matter the obstacles, we are all capable of achieving greatness. Scan the QR code below to listen and join the conversation!
